Oriental surf feeling on untouched beaches

Get on your board and throw yourself into the waves - on deserted and dreamlike wide beaches. I'll show you why Morocco should be on every surfer's bucket list.

Morocco is a fascinating, fabulous and unique country. There is the colorful Marrakech, the vast desert and... - oh, Morocco, the surfer's paradise?! I would not have thought that, would you? In fact, there are really cool surfing hotspots in Morocco! Of course, I had to take a closer look so that I can tell you a little bit about it. Who knows, maybe there is also one of the other passionate surfers among you? I have always dreamed of getting on a surfboard and riding the waves of the ocean. But well, enough of that, and off to the North African country, where oriental surf feeling prevails.

Marocco's treasures - There is much to experience

I love countries where there is a lot to experience. Countries that harbor many hidden treasures. In the northwest of Africa lies this very special country called Morocco, just a few kilometers away from the European continent. It borders both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Probably the hottest surfing hotspot in the country is Taghazout, a small fishing village in southern Morocco, 19 kilometers from Agadir, where the nearest airport is located.

Surfing in Morocco

In the winter months, Morocco has the ideal conditions with about 20 degrees to swing on the surfboard and conquer the waves. While in Europe at that time usually cold temperatures prevail, Morocco is the perfect place to break out of the European winter. Taghazout is considered a real insider tip for surfers and is supposedly in no way inferior to other surf hotspots in the world! Surfers from all over the world come every year to the point breaks like Hash-Point, Anchor-Point, and Killer-Point. Here, beginners, as well as advanced surfers and pros, can have a great time, they say.

In Taghazout and Tamraght there are many so-called surf camps, i.e. special accommodations for surfers in the form of hotels and guesthouses. The surf camps are mostly very cozy and family accommodations, which are also inexpensive. Many surf camps offer different packages - some even include a yoga lesson. There are also surf courses for those who want to learn how to surf, but also for advanced surfers who want to improve.

The surf spots

There are many surf spots on the coast of Morocco, but they are not suitable for everyone. But I will tell you which spot is suitable for which level of experience. One thing I can assure you now: Here is guaranteed for every surf fan the right thing.
Surfing for beginners:

  • Panorama Point is well suited for beginners, as it has the perfect waves for practice. For advanced surfers, the waves might be a bit too calm and small.
  • The Banana-Point is also good for beginners because the waves are also rather small here.
  • Beginners can also try their hand at Banana Reef. For some beginners, the waves are just small and calm enough.

Surfing for advanced and surfing for professionals:

Killers-Point, Hash-Point, and Mystery are the best spots for advanced and pro surfers because the waves hit the reefs here. Accordingly, the waves are high and anything but calm! Foot protection is also highly recommended at these spots.

Morocco is an ideal surf spot because...

  • there are many empty beaches in Morocco.
  • the ideal weather conditions prevail Comfortable weather in winter!
  • Moroccans are very friendly people.
  • the cost of living is very low: For a good meal in Morocco, you pay the equivalent of only 3€.
  • Morocco is international: You can meet surfers from all over the world.

What about you guys? Have you already had your first surfing experience and can you recommend any other surf spots? Or maybe you have already been surfing in Morocco? I am curious about your experiences!
